corook causes another viral sensation with “Scooby”

Date:

Trailblazing pop singer-songwriter corook—who first broke through with the viral self-acceptance anthem “if i were a fish”—is sparking another major viral moment with their new single, “Scooby.” The track critiques consumerism, performative politics, algorithmic rage, and class division.

The song’s teaser quickly ignited across TikTok, amassing millions of views and reactions in just days. Among the flood of commentary, one comment compared corook with Bo Burnham, who is known for blending comedy, music, and sharp cultural critique. The comparison only fueled the momentum, showcasing corook’s growing reputation for pairing sharp humor with uncomfortable cultural truths.

Much of the reaction surrounding “Scooby” taps into corook’s increasingly candid relationship with internet culture itself. As they explained in a recent interview, “I think it’s an incredibly weird time to be the level of artist that I am. Like somebody that obviously has a fan base, but also can’t avoid the ease of interacting with the internet.”

Corook has been open about the boundaries they’ve had to create with online spaces, noting, “I’ve had to create a lot of boundaries just within the last few months around it.” While stepping back can feel complicated, they added, “I actually think I’m having a far higher quality of interaction with people elsewhere.” That desire for real connection over performative engagement echoes throughout the track’s biting lyrics.

The single marks corook’s first new release since their 2025 album committed to a bit: which was praised for its vulnerability, humor, and expansive pop sensibilities.

“Scooby” is out now.
