Alternative rock artist 44Blonde has just released his most recent single, “Want You Back”, a deep dive into longing for a love that was lost.

With musical influences ranging from emo to hip hop, 44Blonde creates an upbeat sound that has deep melancholic undertones, perfectly conveying the feelings of longing for a relationship and the pain of having lost it. “Want You Back” feels nostalgic and relatable: equally filled with heart and angst, it’s reminiscent of the rise of pop punk and emo in the early 2000’s. Despite these references, the track manages to go a set further with its moody and ethereal atmosphere.

As far as heartbreak songs go, “Want You Back” explores it all: the good memories are smashed by the painful reality of the separation. On the significance of the song, 44Blonde explains: “The song is about the ups and downs of relationships and navigating through troubled waters, as I always end up wondering what could have been.” In the most straight forward way, “Want You Back” reminds us that we inevitably long for the things we cannot have.
