The co-headlining tour of Mastodon and Opeth hit Atlanta last week, where hometown heroes Mastodon headlined for the packed out crowd of Atlanta’s newest venue The Eastern.

Zeal and Ardor opened the show with their unique and soulful mix of African-American spirituals and black metal.  This set was a true treat for anyone in attendance — this band is sure to break big soon.

Next up was the opulent sounds of Swedish band Opeth.  A long-running band known for their lengthy compositions and lavish soundscapes, their visual show did not fail to impress the crowd, as well.  The crowd was treated to an opening track sang in Swedish by front man Mikael Åkerfeldt.

Fresh off an appearance on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show, Mastodon brought a masterful performance to The Eastern.  Promoting their latest album, the Grammy-nominated Hushed and Grim, the show peaked with hit single “Teardrinker” – a name also adorning Atlanta local brewery Three Taverns’ latest collaborative brew featuring artwork promoting the new track.
