Epica and Seven Kingdoms Light Up The Masquerade

Date:

On May 8th, The Masquerade’s Heaven stage in Atlanta turned into a haven for metal fans, as Epica brought their symphonic metal magic to town with Florida power metal band Seven Kingdoms opening the night. It was the second show of Epica’s short but highly anticipated U.S. run in support of their new album Aspiral, and the energy in the room was undeniable from start to finish.

Seven Kingdoms set the tone perfectly. Their mix of melodic riffs, shredding solos, and symphonic vocals got the crowd fired up early. With a stacked setlist consisting of 10 of their power metal bangers, they played with the energy and polish of a band that knows how to get a crowd moving. Camden Cruz interacted with the crowd like a commander in a great battle rallying those in attendance as Sabrina Valentine’s stage presence demanded attention, from her sparkling bodysuit down to her hamburger slippers, the crowd was entranced. Longtime fans were singing along as new fans were created due to their tight musicianship and stage presence.

When Epica took the stage the room absolutely erupted. They blended material from Aspiral, songs like “Aspiral”, the title track and “Arcana” and fan favorites from the past like “Cry for the Moon”, which hit hard live, blending orchestral grandeur with heavy guitars and fierce vocals. Simone Simons was a vocal powerhouse as always, effortlessly switching between ethereal highs and gritty emotion. Mark Jansen’s growls added the perfect contrast, and the whole band was locked in and full of energy. The set was packed with moments of cinematic drama and headbanging riffs. You could tell the band was truly excited to be back playing in the U.S., and the crowd matched that energy with pure love.

There is always something special about seeing bands like  Epica and Seven Kingdoms in a more intimate venue like The Masquerade. The sound was massive, the crowd was into every second, and the atmosphere displayed why the metal community is the best. Whether you came for the soaring symphonics, the crushing riffs, or just to scream your lungs out with fellow fans, this show delivered. Unfortunately there were only 3 dates on this short run as Epica heads to Mexico for their next leg of touring and Seven Kingdoms head out with Blind Kingdoms this Fall.
