Birmingham’s Legacy Arena was buzzing with an overwhelming energy as fans gathered for the powerhouse Shinedown Dance, Kid, Dance tour, featuring Morgan Wade and Beartooth. The lineup brought a range of genres from Morgan Wade’s country-infused catalog, Beartooth’s raw and energic rock anthems and the over the top rock hits that Shinedown has been delivering for over 2 decades. The whole evening was packed from start to finish!
Morgan Wade opened the night with a somber but melodic set. As Morgan has displayed time after time, her voice was raw and full of emotion, setting the early moments with a low-key energy that would rise as the evening went on. Morgan didn’t need to use any flashy lights or gimmicks, just a guitar, powerful lyrics, an incredible backing band, and a voice that forced you stop and listen. Her songs always hit hard, and the crowd responded with a quiet admiration. It was a bold yet incredible way to start the night, and it worked beautifully.
Beartooth was next to hit the stage, and the energy shifted into high gear. Frontman Caleb Shomo stormed the stage like a tornado, as him and the band didn’t let up for a second. In terms of frontmen, Caleb is in a league of his own as his energy is unmatched, making his way across the entire catwalk throughout the whole set and interacting with the crowd, he never slows down. Beartooth was loud and aggressive and all in the best way. Songs such as “Might Love Myself” and “Riptide” had the crowd jumping, screaming, and throwing up the devil horns. It was pure adrenaline, and even those new to the band couldn’t help but get swept up in the chaos. Beartooth doesn’t just play a show, they unleash one.
By the time Shinedown hit the stage, the crowd was fully primed, and they did not disappoint, with Shinedown proving once again why they are the modern kings of arena rock shows opening with a dark atmospheric live rendition of “Dance, Kid, Dance”. Brent Smith commanded every inch of the arena, weaving between fiery visuals and thunderous riffs with ease. The setlist covered the hits, “Second Chance,” “Monsters,” “Cut the Cord”, but also made room for some deep cuts and a show-stopping cover of “Simple Man” that turned the arena into a giant sing-along. Brent stopped throughout the show to address the crowd, always making it feel like he was talking directly to you. As with all Shinedown shows, he has the audience look to the person beside them and to embrace the as a new friend, creating a community. It would be a disservice to not mention the insane amount of pyro throughout the evening as well. Shinedown knows how to set a stage afire, with flames shooting out from the floor and the ceiling engulfing the arena into an inferno. In terms of showmanship, it is hard to beat Shinedown and they showed why after over 2 decades they are still at the top of the game.
This wasn’t just a concert, it was a ride. Morgan Wade brought the emotion, Beartooth brought the chaos, and Shinedown tied it all together with fire and heart. If you’re lucky enough to catch this tour on the second leg, make sure you check it out! It’s a night to remember!
