‘F1 The Album’ brings a soundtrack keeping adrenaline high

Date:

F1: The Album Cover

Recommended Tracks: “As Bad As I Used To Be”, “Just Keep Watching”, “Lose My Mind”

From the youthful energy of Tate McRae to the electric rhythm that encapsulates Dom Dolla, F1 The Album brings a sound and range of A-listers just as thrillingly stimulating as the sport itself. It’s safe to say that soundtrack albums are well on their way to making a comeback.

June 27th, the long awaited F1: The Movie starring Bradley Cooper hit theaters, and with it, the 17 track album released by Atlantic Records – who are famously known for their soundtracks in conjunction with their accompanying movies and as strong stand alones. While each artist on F1 The Album brings the energy aligning with the genre they’re traditionally known for, the overall sound of the album plays together extremely well, bursting with charisma and staying consistent with the overarching themes of the movie.

It is no coincidence that the artists featured on the album have as much international and diverse representation as the sport itself, reeling in fan bases across the board. Tracks by ROSÉ, Doja Cat, Peggy Gou, Darkoo, Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, Roddy Ricch, Tiësto, Sexyy Red, among others were inspired by certain bits and pieces of the entirety of the film.

In addition to the film’s score by Hans Zimmer, F1 The Movie tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 driver, and his journey as a mentor to a rookie driver, attempting to save a struggling team. F1 racing has seen an absolutely significant spike in interest across cultures and backgrounds over the past couple years, gaining adoring fans ready to get their hands on all the content they can get. This F1 fan base combined with the artists’ dedicated listeners spanning genres sets this album up for sure-fire success.

Opening with “Lose My Mind” By Don Toliver and Doja Cat, F1 The Album begins the record with an ethereal, smoothed out sound with accompanying synths behind it, making for an addicting energy teetering between yearning emotionality and lighthearted carelessness. Coming in with a bit more of an edge, Doja Cat’s confidence and potent lyricism are what makes this track shine. The contrast of the duet works extremely well together, and builds off of each other in a memorable way.

Keeping in tone with the high-energy nature of the opening song, tracks like “No Room for A Saint” by Dom Dolla and Nathan Nicholson, “OMG” by Tiesto and Sexxy Red, and “D.A.N.C.E” by Peggy Gou all feature pulsing, electric beats embodying the house music genre. Placed right alongside, the pop icons Tate McRae, Madison Beer and Ed Sheeran do what they do best delivering catchy hooks with tones of liveliness and adrenaline, perfectly in line with the overall scope of F1 itself.

Another standout, “Bad As I Used to Be” by Chris Stapleton, is unlike any of the other tracks, bringing a country twang to the already genre-bending list. The guitar solo and backing harmonica paired with the traditional storytelling lyrics that country music brings adds a refreshing twist to the overall sound of F1 The Album, exploring themes of authenticity in the face of challenge.

Overall, this album truly has something for everyone, no matter your taste in music, movies, or sports. Each of the artists within this diverse lineup brings what makes them uniquely them, making for great music and a broad influence on pop culture.
