Australian indie rock group Spacey Jane are making a name for themselves as one of indie music’s most exciting rising acts. Known for their sunny and garage rock-inspired approach to indie rock, Spacey Jane will continue to expand upon their artistry with the release of their third studio album If That Makes Sense, out May 9 through AWAL.

Spacey Jane is currently composed of Caleb Harper (lead vocals, guitar), Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu (lead guitars), Peppa Lane (bass) and Kieran Lama (drums). The band initially took shape when Harper and Lama met in high school while living in Geraldton. After playing together in a grunge group called Sicchino, the two eventually moved to Perth in 2015 to study at University of Western Australia. It was here that they met future bandmates Hardman Le-Cornu and Amelia Murray, the band’s original bassist, and in 2016 the band played their debut concert in Harper’s dad’s backyard.

Extensively playing live after this first show, the band made serious headway right at the start of their career with the release of their debut EP No Way to Treat an Animal in 2017. That album’s second single, “Feeding the Family,” became Platinum-Certified, and the band didn’t slow down from there, releasing their sophomore EP In the Slight the following year.

In the Slight marked a sonic shift for Spacey Jane as they switched from garage tones to a more indie rock sound. In 2020, the group released their debut album Sunlight, which rose to No. 2 on the ARIA Charts. The single “Booster Seat” off the record became 7x Platinum-Certified and won ARIA Song of the Year. 2022 saw the release of Spacey Jane’s sophomore LP Here Comes Everybody, and that year the band were the most played band of the 2022 Triple J Hottest 100.

Now, Spacey Jane are gearing up to release If That Makes Sense, their third full-length record. The announcement of a new album originally came in January 2025, following a year-long hiatus of playing live. Three singles have been released ahead of the album, including “Through My Teeth,” “All the Noise” and “How to Kill Houseplants.”

Following the album’s release, Spacey Jane will embark on a massive world tour. The band will head out on the New Zealand and Australian leg of the If That Makes Sense Tour, touring these dates — many of which are sold out — throughout May, June and July. After this leg, Spacey Jane will embark on the North American, European and U.K. dates this fall.

On their upcoming record, Spacey Jane dive deeper into their emotions as they explore themes of identity and facing the unknown. Conveying a heightened sense of discovery and maturity on behalf of the band, If That Makes Sense will undoubtedly make perfect sense as it finds its place within Spacey Jane’s radiant artistry.
