Hailing from the vibrant music scene of Atlanta, Georgia, five-piece emotional-hardcore group The Funeral Portrait will stop at nothing to make their mark on modern rock and roll. Combining elements of emo punk and alternative rock to create a signature sound that is both hard-hitting and melodic, The Funeral Portrait recall nostalgic elements of Y2K rock while delivering it in a way that is fresh, exciting and relevant.

Although formed initially in 2014, the current lineup has existed since 2019. Now consisting of Lee Jennings (vocals), Robert Weston (bass), Homer Umbanhower (drums), Cody Weissinger (guitars) and Caleb Freihaut (guitars, keyboard), Jennings remains the only constant member of the rising emo rock outfit. With two EPs and one full-length album under their belts, The Funeral Portrait are now gearing up to release their upcoming album Greetings From Suffocate City. The group has released several singles ahead of the record, including their most recent track “Blood Mother” and “Suffocate City”, the latter of which features Ice Nine Kills’s frontman Spencer Charnas.

The Funeral Portrait is an up-and-coming rock band, gathering a devout following through their hard-hitting musicality, onstage allure and social media presence. Throughout their career the group has opened for numerous acts including Shinedown, Ice Nine Kills, Underoath, Skillet and PVRIS. Currently, The Funeral Portrait is on tour with Slaughter To Prevail, Marilyn Manson and Five Finger Death Punch throughout August and September. Their upcoming album Greetings From Suffocate City is set to release in September — on Friday the 13th no less.

The band claims that they represent the misfits and the outcasts, and they hope their music can other catharsis and comfort for those who never felt like they fit in. The Funeral Project has also been praised for their outspoken advocacy regarding mental health issues and the LGBTQ+ community. For those who find peace within the spooky, the haunting or the alternative, The Funeral Portrait is the perfect band of misfits to keep on your radar.
