The Japanese House (Amber Bain) has released another new track, “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones”, the fourth single from her upcoming album, In the End It Always Does. The song, named after Bain’s dog Joni (who is indeed named after Joni Mitchell), was written in collaboration with MUNA’s Katie Gavin.
“One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones” is one of the most stripped down tracks we’ve heard from The Japanese House in a long time. With only the presence of Bain’s voice, the piano, a violin, and a saxophone, this slow song sees Bain struggle with her own identity in connection to a former partner. The minimalistic instrumentals and the absence of The Japanese House’s usual synths give the raw and emotional lyrics even more weight.
