Orion Sun’s hauntingly beautiful “Already Gone” delivers raw emotion

Date:

Philadelphia-based alternative R&B singer Orion Sun has made her highly-anticipated return with her newest single “Already Gone”, a breathtakingly beautiful song about the profound sense of loss and heartache that comes after a breakup.

The track comes two years after Sun came to prominence for being the opening act on Daniel Caesar’s Superpowers World Tour and contributing to Bryson Tiller’s single “Whatever She Wants”.

“Already Gone” sees Sun overcoming the weight of the world on her shoulders when the future she set out for herself is different than what she ever imagined. Instead, she tries to cope with losing someone she loves despite struggling with everyday life. She sings, “It’s a mile to the front door / Took a parachute down to the bottom floor / Was gonna meet you outside by the waterfront / But you were already gone”.

Time is simply moving slower in the world Sun is living in, as she faces the fact that it’s all over. “We were black sheep in the barn / Found love broke free”, before concluding with, “Got ahead of me but I was catching up / Got there and you were already gone”.

“Already Gone” seamlessly captures Sun’s beautiful vocals against a haunting sonic backdrop while confronting the silence that comes with loss. In a recent statement, Sun spoke about the track:

“It’s about that first night alone when your partner moves out and it’s obvious nothing will ever be the same. You try to change it or fix it or run from it but you have to come home eventually. The silence becomes heavy like water. Everything was a task. Everything was hard. I was holding on to hope like a life raft. Only in retrospect is it kind of funny. It seems dramatic and annoying but it was so true to me then.”
