New love sounds like Oh He Dead’s latest single, “Lightning Drunk

Date:

“Rock and soul” five-piece Oh He Dead forecasts the feeling of new love in their latest release, “Lightning Drunk.” A groovy blend of funk and 8os synth and keys, the song begs its listener to dance.

The start of something is electric, and “Lightning Drunk” personifies this energy using a deep bass and techno keyboard accents. With drumming in the pocket and reminiscent of a 70s groove, the sonics exemplify a dawning. What shines is lead singer CJ Johnson’s vocals, inflection, and feeling, especially in the last chorus. “And you light me up like electric love // And I get that buzz // Good loving baby, good, good loving baby.” New love holds sparks – fun and warm, with untouchable energy, just like the song.

The DC-based band is working on their upcoming album Pretty, slated for release this fall. The album was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, in peak isolation. “Pretty is a euphoric pop album, but it was also born out of necessity during the darkest time in our lives. Mostly though, it’s just sublime, funky, sexy-ass pop,” Johnson says.
