Amos Lee announces new album ‘Transmissions’ out Aug. 9, shares new single “Darkest Places”

Date:

Singer-songwriter Amos Lee has announced that his latest album, Transmissions, will be released on Friday, August 9, under his own label, Hoagiemouth Records, via Thirty Tigers. This album marks his first collection of original songs in two years.

Alongside the announcement, Lee released a new single from the album, “Darkest Places,” which he wrote in Los Angeles, California. The upbeat track delves into the darker aspects of a strip club in a metaphorical and literal sense. Lee explained he was spending much of his time observing people’s actions and places, saying “it’s a song about not thinking that you’re supposed to fall in love the Disney way every time.”

Transmissions is Lee’s 11th studio album and features two previously released singles: “Hold On Tight,” released in April with an official music video by Anthony Mulcahy and James Delahunty, and “Beautiful Day,” released in May, which addresses themes of self-acceptance and anxiety.

With Transmissions, Lee expands his musical horizons through his newly launched label, Hoagiemouth Records (distributed through Thirty Tigers), exploring themes of death, aging, and love. The Philadelphia-based singer self-produced the album, recording it with his longtime band in a studio in rural Marlboro, New York, built by drummer Lee Falco and his father from reclaimed wood from an old church.

“There’s a lot of existential stuff in these songs,” Lee says “If you really listen to what’s in between the lines, there’s a lot of grappling with your place in the world, grappling with loss. There’s a lot of grappling with the balance between bailing out the boat and rowing at the same time – the experience of writing music and playing songs while trying, as we all are right now, to make sense of a world that feels like it’s changing really quickly.”

Lee is currently celebrating his forthcoming album with a headlining tour that began in early 2024. In September, he is set to join the Indigo Girls for a co-headline tour, featuring sold-out shows in Colorado and California. For complete details and remaining ticket availability, click here.
