The Dead South was Alive in St. Pete

Date:

The south came alive this past Wednesday night when Canada’s bluegrass quartet The Dead South brought their Served Cold tour to St. Petersburg, FL. Country-blues trio Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band opened the evening, setting the crowd up for a night of great music. I mean, how many bands can say they have a washboard that gets set on fire at the end of the set? They had a bluesy groove that must be heard. They also had a great report with the audience; Rev Peyton even got everyone to put their phones away (no small feat) so they could clap along.

The Dead South is hard to describe. Equal parts bluegrass and country with a singer that sounds like gravel harmonizing with a falsetto while everyone is dressed like Amish preachers that can probably raise one hell of a barn. When you read it, it doesn’t make sense, but it works. And they are just so damn good. Outfitted with a banjo, a couple guitars, an upright bass, and one kick drum, it’s a good old fashioned tent revival. So if The Dead South come to your town, go on out and get saved.

  1. His name is not Jayme. That is Revs brother who is no longer in the band if you’d like to update your post. 🙂 He simply goes by Rev Peyton.
