In just one year, English indie-rock duo Good Neighbours topped rock-alternative charts in 2024, were nominated for multiple British music awards, and their viral debut single “Home” gained multiple certifications worldwide, including Platinum in the US (RIAA) and Gold in the UK (BPI) — all before the official release of an album.
Good Neighbours are taking the indie scene by storm by opening their doors to fans in need of their staple chill vibes and upbeat spirit. Their debut album, Blue Sky Mentality, spans 14 tranquil tracks that encapsulate positive energy, providing a soundtrack to a feel-good atmosphere you could fall in love with.
The London-based pair of Oli Fox and Scott Verrill shared that Blue Sky Mentality serves as a culmination of what the band has learned since the start, written between hotel rooms, in tour buses, and all over the world:
“Blue Sky Mentality has been our motto since day one. Our band began as a kind of light relief – a creative outlet to break from jobs that we couldn’t stand and some tough personal times. Over the last year, we ran with that feeling, writing our debut album on the road […] That’s what Blue Sky Mentality means to us – finding light, friendship and a sense of escapism wherever you are.”
If you discovered Good Neighbours through their hit “Home” and expect the other thirteen tracks to follow suit, you’re in luck. Blue Sky Mentality is consistently calm in tone and melody, conveying a simple message of falling in love or having a generally good time. Amid incredible production and vocals nothing short of fantastic, the duo hardly strays from this signature sound, so you know what you’re getting into from the first note to the final.
While the album is consistent in tone, there are plenty of preeminent songs. Blue Sky Mentality’s fourth track, “found u/me,” is a lighthearted highlight of the project, following the album’s narrator, who is not only entranced by the potential love of his life but has also found someone who completes him as an individual. The storyline is quite simply put: “When I found you, I found me.”
“Kids Can’t Sleep” is a standout song placed at the center of the album that finally gets its time to shine in a studio recording. Good Neighbours first debuted this song live on their earlier 2025 tour, inviting fans to dance and clap along with the head-bopping tune.
The one instance where the tone of the album shifts is with the closing track “The Buzz,” which slows the usual Good Neighbours sound down a notch. This song sounds like the combination of Declan McKenna and the slower side of Cage the Elephant’s discography.
Overall, Good Neighbours’ Blue Sky Mentality is a great demonstration of a duo that understands its sound and sticks to it. While the band has already reached international recognition, this is just the beginning of what the Londoners are capable of. If what they have next in store for fans is anything like this project, then it’s sure to be a good time.
Good Neighbours will embark on their headlining North American tour this fall, starting in Dallas, TX, on Oct. 5 and ending in Los Angeles, CA, on Nov. 12. All dates are with support from “Sunroof” singer Nicky Youre. Tickets to their North American shows are availabe here.
