Indie pop singer-songwriter Rosie Darling released her latest single, “Joanna,” on Nov. 29. The Boston-born, Los Angeles-based artist is naturally confessional, pairing flowing melodies with meaningful, gut-wrenching lyrics.
“Joanna” is a guitar-driven track that Darling says is:
“…a not-so-subtle shoutout to my best friend from high school, Joanna, who has always been there for me despite living 3,000 miles away from each other! I don’t take my friendships for granted and when I look back I am so grateful to have found a lifelong friend during those core teenage years when we were finding our way, growing into the people we are today. Years later, it’s nice to pick up the phone and talk to someone who knows every version of you through all of your phases.”
The single draws influence from artists like Kacey Musgraves as Darling belts out her fondness for her friendship with Joanna. Warm and reflective in its tone, “Joanna” is a beautiful display of love for a friend while boosting female empowerment.
