The Olivia O’Brien Show visits Chicago

Date:

Welcome to the Olivia O’Brien Show! With your host Olivia O’Brien, musical guest Olivia O’Brien, and light refreshments provided by Olivia O’Brien.

These were the words musician Olivia O’Brien greeted us with to open her sold-out Chicago show at the House of Blues on Sunday, November 21st. Inspired by her recently released EP Episodes: Season 1, Olivia wanted to create a television show for both herself and her fans to star in. Before Olivia took the stage, fans were shown an introductory video to the show, complete with a 30-second countdown and product advertisements for Olivia’s merchandise, all with a fun 50’s gameshow feel. The anonymous announcer told us to “give it up for our host: Instagram model, one-hit-wonder, and candidate for a master’s degree in being hot – Olivia O’Brien!”

Known for both her social media personality and musical talent, Olivia is just as likable on stage as she is on the computer screen. After writing and featuring on Gnash’s 2016 hit “I Hate U, I Love U” when she herself was only 15, Olivia quickly gained fans through her raw and relatable lyrics. The connection with her fans was obvious as the first bars of “We’re All Gonna Die” began to play, and Olivia started her show. Following up with “Tequilawine” and “Keep It Movin’,” Olivia brought the dance moves.

The rest of her 20-song show included covers of “Complicated” by Avril Lavigne, and “Your Love Is My Drug” by Kesha, as well as fan-favorites “Fuck Feelings” and “Josslyn.”
