Wembley Park is ushering in the upcoming arrival of alt-pop superstar Lana Del Rey, who will perform two sold-out shows at the stadium on July 3rd and 4th. The park has unveiled a 20-square-meter mural of her visage and will be hosting a free, one-night-only orchestral experience featuring Del Rey’s most iconic songs.
The mural, titled Lust for Life after Del Rey’s 2017 album, was spray painted by British street artist HUMOR on the side wall of the Spanish Steps. After the success of last summer’s large-scale artwork titled Swiftie Steps, HUMOR is rejoining Wembley Park and street art collective MurWalls for another collaboration. The Lust for Life mural is the newest addition to the Wembley Park Art Trail, a free open-air art gallery showcasing works by leading local and international artists in Northwest London. It even has its very own street sign, marking the newly named Lana Lane.
Accompanying Lust for Life, Wembley Park is also hosting a free, one-night-only orchestral experience, titled Lana Del Rey: The String Sessions on July 1st at 7pm BST. London’s acclaimed eight-piece City String Ensemble will perform orchestral arrangements of Del Rey’s most iconic songs including “Video Games,” “West Coast,” “Born to Die,” new single “Henry, Come On,” and many more.
City String Ensemble’s founder and artistic director Sophie Poteratchi shared in a statement:
“We’re thrilled to bring Lana’s music to life in such an iconic setting. The atmosphere at Wembley Park– with the arch and overhead fans all around– will make this a truly special experience.”
The new mural and open-air orchestral concert are part of Wembley Park’s Summer Rocks program. Summer Rocks is a season-long series of free events including a wellness festival, outdoor art classes, and weekend performances celebrating 10 years of Busk in London. Fans can book free tickets on the Wembley Park website, or just show up.
