sunsetto delivers standout track, “CROSSFIRE,” from debut pop album

Date:

On Oct. 4, Canadian producer sunsetto released his debut album THE SUN, THE MOON, AND THE BIG MACHINE. The first song on the album, “CROSSFIRE,” is a blend of R&B, alt-rock, and bedroom-pop. In his song, he touches on his regret from ruining his relationship by making remarks that unintentionally hurt the other person.

“CROSSFIRE” begins with innovative guitar strums before going into a hypnotic loop. The first verse starts off boldly with sunsetto singing, “I feel like I get high and get selfish / I feel like there ain’t no way around it.” However, he admits that the hurtful things he does and says “sink in everytime I’m drinking.” Through an upbeat chorus, sunsetto lets listeners know that he’s self-aware he’s the one to blame with lyrics like “Took a shot to the heart / That was my bad.”

The singer-songwriter reinforces that he isn’t mad at the other person by taking responsibility and apologizing. In his second verse, he sings, “I fucked up like I always do / And I’m sorry that I end up hurting you / State of mind, mine isn’t fine.” By beginning his album with “CROSSFIRE,” sunsetto gears listeners for the genre-bending songs that are to come on his innovative pop album while offering creative, personal lyrics.

With his new album THE SUN, THE MOON, AND THE BIG MACHINE, sunsetto begins a new chapter of music for himself that shows off his ability to fuse other genres into pop and touch on themes that range from joyful to profound in his lyricism. Previous singles like “PLANS,” “POTENTIAL,” and “GREEN TXTS” are a testament to how sunsetto’s finger is on the pulse of a new generation of pop fans.
