On “v@nish”, Kathy Katouzi leans fully into overload and turns it into something strangely addictive. The Toronto-based artist and producer moves away from polished pop instincts and embraces a more chaotic, hyperpop-driven space where emotion and production blur into one.
From the first seconds, the track feels dense and restless. Layers stack quickly: distorted synths, sharp percussion, and glossy fragments that flicker in and out. It mirrors the emotional state at the center of the song, that point where burnout stops being quiet and starts becoming noise.
What stands out most is how intentional that chaos feels. This is not randomness for effect. Every texture adds to the sense of overstimulation, creating a soundscape that feels crowded but controlled. Katouzi uses production as storytelling, letting the listener sit inside the overwhelm rather than just hear about it.
Vocally, she keeps things close and repetitive. The “vanish vanish vanish” refrain works like a loop you cannot quite escape, turning into something almost hypnotic. It lands somewhere between a plea and a coping mechanism, capturing that urge to disappear without dramatizing it. The simplicity of the line is exactly what gives it weight.
There is also a subtle tension between escapism and confrontation. The glossy, almost playful Y2K aesthetic pulls you in, but underneath it sits something more uneasy. The track does not offer relief. It reflects the feeling of being stuck inside the cycle.
The abrupt ending plays directly into that idea. Just as the track builds momentum, it cuts off without warning. It leaves a gap, almost forcing you to sit with the absence. It is a small detail, but one that reinforces the concept in a way that feels sharp and deliberate. It is messy, intense and a little disorienting, which is exactly the point.
