Norwegian-American pop singer Hanna Andréa is a narrative-forward, visually immersive artist who gives her fans music that they can hear but also see. Her debut album, Stranded in the Middle, dropped two years ago and was accompanied by a Northern Norwegian classical ensemble at the album’s launch concert. There’s also Muse! The Shakespeare Mayhem Musical, with songs that Hanna wrote herself. It was co-created with Lisa Sanderson and has bloomed into a full-scale production with Broadway performers, rich storytelling, and an emotional musical score. It has been selected as a featured production for the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which will run in August.
Hanna just knows how to build new worlds through her music, and she is about to bring fans into another realm with the release of her upcoming EP, Braveheart. Fans have been introduced to this project already through previous singles “Pinnacles,” “Float,” and “Braveheart,” three tracks that explore various coming-of-age themes and expose audiences to Hanna’s distinct voice in contemporary pop. Her genre-blending sound and lyrical prowess also come through, further emphasizing her artistry and ambition. She continues to roll out the EP with “Get Off Your Phone.”
Co-written with Michael Biancaniello, James Conner, Kelsey Gauthier, and Dominique Vellutato, “Get Off Your Phone” blends ‘90s pop with ‘00s rock. It evokes the spirit of a classic Avril Lavigne or Olivia Rodrigo hit, with its restlessness, catchy melodies, and relatable social commentary. Throughout, Hanna is guided by forward-moving guitar strums as she tells us about the frustration of being around someone who is attached to their phone. With dynamic pop vocals, Hanna sings, “By the time you open your eyes / The moment’s passing you by / Life could be great, but you wouldn’t know / ‘Cause you’re on your phone.”
About the song’s message, Hanna shares,
“I got social media later than lot of my friends, so there were a lot of times when I’d be hanging out with them and they’d just be scrolling while I awkwardly started into space, not knowing what to do. I always thought it was kind of sad to be together in the same room but not actually be doing anything together.”
