Cmplxtra reminisces on “seventeen”

Date:

Based out of Melbourne, Australia, Cmplxtra complements their folk-inspired vocals with alternative electronic elements that prove new single “seventeen” to be the perfect track to add to a “My Life is a Movie” playlist.

Cmplxtra uses simple drum kits, raw acoustic guitar and perfectly timed electro-keys; they produced the entirety of “seventeen,” leaving each detail to have a raw, creative intentionality. Peppy with a mellow balance, “seventeen” gives listeners a track with an enjoyable melody, eventually paired with intense electric guitar towards the end of the song.

The just over three-minute track touches on the pressing aspects of growing up and maturing through adolescence at “seventeen.” Self-esteem, identity, comparison and confidence are all topics at the forefront of the single, which are universally felt and experienced at age “seventeen” and beyond.

Lyrics such as, “I can’t be anyone else, I can’t be anyone else / but I want it,” and, “I’m so paranoid, my heart is picking up / feel like you’re talkin’ ’bout me and my skin ain’t thick enough,” capture the uncertainty of reputation and perception of others while also craving a new life or identity.

Inspired by artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, Cmplxtra created a hit alternative pop song that appeals to listeners as both reminiscent and ever-occurring.
