Mayday Parade’s new and final addition to their three-part trilogy, Sugar, just released.
“Weekend Music” is part of the newest project from Mayday Parade, and it’s the final installment of their two-year celebratory project that has seen the band write, record and release nearly 30 songs while celebrating 20 years together.
Derek Sanders shares more about the creation of the new single:
“When we began working on Sugar – part three of a three album release – I started to get concerned that we had overextended ourselves. That the good ideas had run dry and needed more time to replenish. ‘Weekend Music’ is one of the songs that came together and put me at ease, it has the catchiness and complexity that I was looking for. It feels good to be able to create a song that we’re proud of so deep into our career.”
In “Weekend Music,” Mayday Parade uses catchy melodies to capture the emotional honesty that the band is known for: “I wanna feel what I have to feel / A little spar ’cause this year has been more bad than good / But it’s fine / It just hurts when it hits but it’s fine / Did I drain you? / The way you cried had me hopeful at first /But I’m not expecting you in this weekend music…”
Mayday Parade also released the music video for the single, which shows the band performing in a house while a couple in black and white films a home movie and takes photos while looking happy and in love.
Mayday Parade’s “Weekend Music” helps prove that Mayday Parade is indeed an emotion.
