Get to know CLAIRO

Date:

At the age of 13, Clairo started to record covers and later shared some of her original songs on Soudcloud, including “Pretty Girl” which caught the interest of some major record labels. She ended up signing with The Fader Label in late 2017. As she attended Syracuse University in Upstate New York in the Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries, her career was taking off and she had to drop out of University to go on tour with Dua Lipa in 2018.

On August 2nd, 2019, Clairo released her first full length album titled Immunity including soft ballads like “I Wouldn’t Ask You” and “Bags” and her first song to enter the Billboard 100 “Sofia”. She gained quite a bit of popularity as she opened for Khalid‘s Free Spirit arena tour in 2019.

In December 2020, Clairo adopted a rescue dog which is a mix between Chow chow and Great pyrenees. She named her dog Joanie after her favourite artist Joni Mitchell. This life change made the 22-year old reflect about parenthood, inspiring her sophomore album Sling.

Released on July 16th, 2021, Sling is reviving the 70’s folk sound as Clairo shifted away from the bedroom pop sound finally finding what works for her as she said in a recent Vogue interview: “I wanna make another album like this, and that feels really exciting because that means I’ve found something that works for me.”

Her latest album Sling features an interlude “Joanie” on which her dog played chimes and snored during the song and she even got credited for it.

Along with Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo contributed as a background vocalist on a couple songs of Lorde‘s album. Using the same approach, Lorde also shared her voice on Sling for the songs “Reaper” and “Blouse”. Both Sling and Solar Power were produced by Jack Antonoff, which helped this collaboration happen.

During the pandemic, Clairo and her friends Claud, Josh Mehling and Noa Frances Getzug, released two singles under the name of Shelly. During an interview for her album Sling, Clairo mentioned she would give some songs that did not make her album to Shelly which we have yet to hear.

Starting in February 2022, Clairo is going on a headlining tour bringing with her as a co-headliner Arlo Parks for the North American Leg and Jonah Yano for the European Leg.
