By now, fans of St. Paul & The Broken Bones are well aware that the band is gearing up to release their new album The Alien Coast, which will drop in January of next year. For the past few months, the group has been preparing for this release by giving us the album’s first two singles, “The Last Dance” and “3000 AD Mass,” setting a strong apocalyptic vibe for what is to come. The band has also announced The Alien Coast Tour across the US next spring, taking them to notable venues that they have never headlined before. In the midst of all this excitement, St. Paul & The Broken Bones are releasing the album’s third single, “Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn,” as well as a live video.
Setting a change of pace for what we have heard so far, “Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn” is a slow-burning track filled with longing and desire. Lead vocalist Paul Janeway puts his falsetto on full display, lightly grazing the notes from the sweet and soulful instruments underneath. He sings about being “trapped in a hotel” and crying himself to sleep, desperate to get back home. You can check it out in the tender live video below.
Telling us more about the track, Paul reveals,
“I remember writing sketches for this song on some hotel notepad. I was lost in thought while looking at the ceiling and just missing home. I was trying not to write in clichés, but ended up doing it anyway. The songs is meant to sound like someone talking softly over a telephone call. A very hard song to sing because it has to be so delicately done.”
You can listen to “Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
