Phoebe Bridgers, midway through her first headlining tour, stopped by the Syndicate Lounge in Birmingham, AL to perform a powerful set to a sold-out crowd. Playing tracks from her acclaimed 2017 debut Stranger in the Alps, Phoebe had the entire audience transfixed on her as she sang of both the joy and frustrations that one can feel in a relationship. At times in the packed venue, it felt as if it was intrusive to even breathe — you could have heard a pin drop when she opened with “Smoke Signals”, but the set would come to a roaring singalong climax when she invited opener Dead Fingers on stage to shout through “Scott Street”.
