Orla Gartland wins prestigious Ivor Novello award for “Mine”

Date:

Irish acoustic indie artist Orla Gartland has won the prestigious Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for her acclaimed single, “Mine,” from her 2024 album Everybody Needs a Hero. Gartland beat out some stiff competition for the award, including Raye’s “Genesis” and the TikTok viral tune “Messy” by Lola Young.

The award-winning single is one of Gartland’s most vulnerable songs by far. She shared in a statement:

“It tells a fragmented story of an experience that really affected my relationship with intimacy and how that stayed with me throughout relationships that followed.”

Gartland has received high praise for Everybody Needs A Hero, with the New York Times stating it “uses the full-spectrum of pop and rock vocabulary to chronicle the bumpy dynamics of a long-term relationship.” NME also described the album as “an eclectic exploration of a woman’s world.”

Everybody Needs A Hero, as well as its newly released extended edition featuring 5 new songs, can be streamed wherever you listen to music. You can also catch Orla Gartland on the road as she wraps up her biggest North American tour, heads to the UK Glastonbury Festival, and then returns to North America to support Glass Animals on their TOUR OF EARTH. Tickets are available for purchase here.
