You may be one of those people who thrives under pressure or loves to challenge expectations. You may also be one of those people who is the exact opposite, overwhelmed by all the standards. There are definitely times when you need that push and times when that push needs to back off, but what do you do when you find yourself both defeated and motivated at the same time? It can be confusing, which is what LA-based singer-songwriter Emily James describes on her new single, “Lovely Enough.”
On “Lovely Enough,” Emily compares who she is to how she is perceived. It is a difficult place to be, made evident in lines like, “I wanna make them nervous, sweet little mystery / But I’m on time, tell everyone everything” and “I could be myself, just tell me what version.” Made all the more poignant with the gentle acoustic sounds and folksy vocals, the track really makes an impact in the choruses, where we hear, “I keep it up / And I don’t know why / All that I hide that I bury inside, just to be / Lovely.” You can check it out below.

“It’s very easy to go down a destructive path when you are so focused on pleasing everyone by trying to be the ‘perfect version’ of yourself and end up losing your true self in the process.”
