K-indie artist Peach Luffe has just released their latest single “What’s On Your Mind,” a soft invitation to communicate after heartbreak. This is the focus track from his new EP, Back To Me, which also dropped on Jan. 24.
There is a very distinct, cozy quality to “What’s On Your Mind,” which stands in contrast with the actual tone of the lyrics. The track has a bright, bedroom pop type of feel, with a pleasant combination of acoustic and electronic sounds that create an almost cinematic experience. As easy as it is to listen to, the song is deeply layered, as we discover more and more details that sit in the background, adding to this dream-like soundscape.
“What’s On Your Mind” continues to be multi-faceted in the lyrics, as it plays as a conversation where the narrator is attempting to reach out. Embedded in the song is a sense of resignation, the damage has already been done; Peach Luffe’s intent is to hear the other person out, regardless of what may come out of this interaction. “Don’t keep it all inside, you can say whatever you like,” the song exclaims over and over, but the desired outcome is ambiguous. There’s a lingering pain in the soft vocals, making it easy for the listener to find themselves in its pleas: whether it’s closure or reconciliation, “What’s On Your Mind” is seeking some sort of answer.
