Fashion-art rock band Palaye Royale finished off their Death or Glory EU/UK tour with a bang at Prague’s Forum Karlín. Joining them were electronicore legend I See Stars and rising Gen Z rock star Huddy.
Huddy, or Chase Hudson, started things off on the right foot. Taking the stage in flared pants, pointy boots, and a Cruella de Vil t-shirt, he fired everyone up with his raw vocal talent and infectious energy. Even during his fairly short set, he managed to leap to the edge of the barricade to sing to fans who had made signs for his performance. His set finished with new single “Cyanide,” a collaboration with Palaye Royale for which lead vocalist Remington Leith joined him onstage.
I See Stars kicked the energy up a notch, with lead vocalist Devin Oliver sprinting back and forth across the stage at every opportunity. The stunning vocal performance he delivered was made even more impressive by the fact that he was always on the move. Their set included fan favorites “Running With Scissors” and “Ten Thousand Feet,” among others. Their emotive and energetic performance won the crowd over easily and by the time they closed with “Anomaly,” the crowd was suitably warmed up.
Palaye Royale finally took the stage around 9:30, satiating an eager crowd. The band started playing with fire, literally, during the first song of their set. Opening with “Nightmares” and following with “Death or Glory,” the band’s energy and theatrics did not disappoint. Leith, with his black-and-white striped vest and bold makeup, hyped the crowd up as he gracefully flung himself across the stage. Guitarist Sebastian Danzig hopped offstage to lean over the barricade and the crowd swarmed him as he played. And this all happened within the first 10 minutes of their set.
They continued seamlessly through their set, which included hits like “Little Bastards,” “No Love In LA,” and “Showbiz.” Along with the occasional fire beams at the front of the stage, they also incorporated a more sparkly variety of fireworks at the back, adding to their overall flair. Danzig and Leith continued to thank the crowd as well as their crew and express how happy they were to be ending their European tour in Prague. To this end, they brought out a Czech flag, which separated its time between being draped over Leith’s shoulders and being draped over Danzig’s microphone for the rest of the set.
The band took some time to slow things down with Leith showcasing his classical piano skills with a few ballads before firing right back up again. The crowd even got treated to an extra chorus from one of their hits as the flamethrowers failed to shoot, so the band cued up to do it again for the full effect.
The highlight of the performance, however, was certainly Leith’s crowd surfing stunt. An inflatable boat appeared seemingly out of nowhere and Leith leapt onto it from the stage before being sent out into the crowd. He continued to sing as fans carried him, and during instrumental solos he shot the crowd with a water gun, much to their delight.
Palaye Royale closed their set with “Fever Dream,” but not before asking fans to sing along as loud as they could so that the band’s mother, who died of cancer earlier this year, could hear it all the way up in heaven.
The crowd went wild, and when the band exited the stage it was clear that they’d soon be back. And indeed, Palaye Royale returned for a three-song encore composed of some of their biggest hits like “Lonely” and “Mr. Doctor Man.”
The evening with Palaye Royale was incredibly well spent. Between the larger-than-life opening lineup and Palaye Royale’s creative ways of engaging with the crowd from their very first song, it was an unforgettable night for fans in Prague. Palaye Royale delivered an extraordinary performance for their last show of the tour, and I’m sure fans are already eagerly awaiting their return.
And luckily for fans in North America, the band has just announced another round of tour dates for next year.
