Child Seat Releases Punchy New Single “Fucking Up a Good Thing”

Date:

Los Angeles-based indie-pop duo Child Seat (Madeleine Mathews of MAWD and Josiah Mazzaschi of Light FM and Bizou) has just released their punchy new single “Fucking Up a Good Thing”. This might be a melancholy track, but the energy behind it will make fans want to listen over and over again.

The start is slow and synth-heavy, leading us into some acoustic guitars and Mathews’ dreamy yet bold vocals. The catchy chorus is backed up by intricate instrumentals, with cymbals, guitars, and synths all weaving together to create a one-of-a-kind soundscape. With the backup vocals towards the end of the first chorus and a tinge of echo on Mathews’ voice, the track is dripping with emotion.

The unique electronic elements add a quirky twist to the song, showing us more of Child Seat’s musical personality. The second chorus is where we start to feel more impact, though. The instrumentals build to support the sheer power coming through Mathews’ voice, driving the track home. You can check it out here.

The song is undoubtedly a sad one, with Mathews’ raw vocals expressing the sentiment of, quite literally, love “fucking up a good thing”. The lyrics are full of sorrow as she pines for attention in the chorus before lamenting that she’s “never felt so insane”. Anyone who’s ever felt stuck while desperately trying to find their way out of a situation will find this track deeply engaging.

“Fucking Up a Good Thing” is one of several successful singles released by Child Seat this year following their debut album Bad Holiday, which came out in 2022. With a new album in the works and an upcoming music video, Child Seat will be keeping listeners busy for the foreseeable future.
