Pagu’s “You Just Love Me Sometimes” explores a new vulnerability

Date:

Pagu‘s newest single “You Just Love Me Sometimes” is a truly interesting intersection of music genres. With his experience producing EDM and bass music, he explores a more emotionally charged sound in this song. The underlying themes behind the lyrics go into love and longing led by the heavy percussion and bass. Pagu really does show his versatility in this new single, exposing himself more within the lyrics and integrating his signature sound.

The song opens with, interestingly enough, an acoustic melody that sets a more vulnerable soundscape for the lyrics. As soon as the vocals come in, a heavier and quicker melody comes in at the chorus to emphasize the lyrics “You just love me sometimes / when you’re running out of guys.” This style of production emotionally takes the listener where they need to go to fully feel all the song has to offer.

There’s also an array of different sound elements that complement each other throughout the track. Starting off with the acoustic melody that gets faded into the electric beat and then blended into a rock-infused melody towards the last chorus is truly a ride. The last 30 seconds is purely for the lingering melody and percussion, which also exudes the same sense of longing that the song is all about.

Pagu shows in this single that he can stay true to his electronic roots and still integrate a more vulnerable message for his listeners. It’s refreshing to hear a song take on a modern approach to electro pop mixed with some rock.
