Ruby Roberts finds the fun in infatuation on “Crush”

Date:

There’s nothing subtle about having a crush, and Ruby Roberts doesn’t try to make it so.

Her new single plays with the chaos, excitement, and slight delusion of a new crush – as she puts it, “the soundtrack to your new love interest.”

Written spontaneously with Jamie Rendle and Will Rendle, “Crush” started as a late-night idea and leans into Roberts’ love of 80s music, channeling what she describes as “fun, camp energy like Wham! and Queen,” with Mike Spencer adding the final layer of polish on production.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Roberts said:

“This song expresses that feeling of dressing up to go out to a party and hoping to bump into your crush. When you don’t even see them it feels like a waste of an outfit.”

“Crush” does indeed feel like it’s made to add to your getting ready playlist – it’s very hard not to enjoy.
