Wyn Starks searches for his father but finds self-worth on “Where Are The Giants”

Date:

There is some truth to certain cliches, like “When one door closes, another one opens.” This was definitely the case with Wyn Starks when he lost his hospitality job at the start of the covid pandemic. As a result, he was able to focus on his music career, and focus he did. Wyn performed on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent, treating fans and viewers to his hit song, “Who I Am.” It is now one of Wyn’s biggest songs to date with over 9 million streams on Spotify alone. It’s crazy to think where he would be now if he didn’t lose that job. Continuing to share his storytelling abilities and indulgent pop soul sound with us, Wyn gives us his first single of 2024, “Where Are The Giants.”

On “Where Are The Giants,” Wyn touches on what it was like for him to grow up without his father in his life. Accompanied by a lively little riff that creeps around the track, he wonders why his father “never came for me” and reveals how much he idolized him growing up. He sings, “I never asked for a dad like the movies / Not some fairytale hero, just somebody to love me / Oh, where are the giants?” referring to the way he saw his dad as “a giant” when he was younger. Even though it’s a very moving listen, Wyn instills how this experience has made him who he is in the end, making it a celebration of self-worth. You can check it out below.

Giving us more details about the track, Wyn explains,

“This is my ‘Daddy Issues’ song. It tells the story of an absent father figure (or parent, etc.). It’s about learning how to be okay without and knowing their absence doesn’t relate to our self-worth.”

You can listen to “Where Are The Giants” on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
