Mauvey brings music, love and fashion to Southampton

Date:

Mauvey is a truly unique R&B alt-pop artist. His shows are full of energy, full of love, and full of his many shades of purple. Currently on ‘The Twenty Twenty Two Tour’, we caught up with Mauvey at The Brook venue in Southampton, UK. He said “you can expect every ounce of my love and every last drop of my emotion at every show on this tour. I promise you that”, and he certainly delivered.

Fresh from the UK music industry’s showcase event the previous weekend in Brighton, The Great Escape Festival, and having performed at SXSW festival in Austin, USA, earlier this year, Mauvey is definitely one to watch. He is a highly entertaining, energetic and passionate performer, who’s stated raison d’etre is “To create and generate love, both on and off stage. My message will always be love”.

We spent some time with Mauvey before the show for a chat and a few photos of his distinctive and frankly beautiful performance costumes. He collaborates with a designer in Vancouver, providing drawings and ideas to her to be made, having always wanted to be in fashion himself. This has become a trademark of Mauvey’s shows, giving almost as much preparation into his bespoke fashion as for the music: There is a unique costume for each performance.

Mauvey performed his original songs, rapping and singing in warm, soft vocals, and treated us to a new song from his forthcoming album, due later in 2022. He actually performed the song twice, such was the love from the crowd and the encouragement he gave for the audience to join in.

The final song was his latest release “The King”. He told us this is about the redistribution of power, that everyone is important; If this king is most important, then you are the king. It’s a powerful song with melodic lyrics proclaiming love and respect for all, with instant appeal. Much like the man himself.

Support came from the En Masse Pop Choir, who as well as providing the opening set, joined Mauvey on stage throughout his show.
