At just 17 years old, Anna Duboc has been making music since 2019, starting with her debut single “Feel the Glow”. Now, after several singles, she’s back with her first release of the year, “Fire.”
She has emerged as a powerful voice for her generation, having begun writing songs in third grade and created a CD of her music for a school assignment. She lit up the musical theater stage at the Adderley School, where she shared the spotlight with Jack Grazer and Ben Platt.
With “Fire,” Duboc continues to showcase her songwriting skills at such a young age. The inspiration behind the song stems from a difficult relationship that deeply affected her mental health. Lines like “I was an open book you couldn’t read / You going deaf right when I speak,” followed by “Stay the hell away from me,” capture the raw emotion of her experience.
“I wrote this song as my own form of therapy to help me process and heal. Maybe you can relate, maybe not, but I think you’ll like this song.”
Duboc metaphorically sees herself as a fire and her former partner as rain, showcasing her resilience with the concluding line, “Now I’m the fire that burns the rain.” Through the track, Duboc’s continuing message reigns true; that it’s okay to go through hard times. It makes you feel less alone in a world that can feel so lonely.
