LEXXE pays tribute to her father with “X”

Date:

Her experience with dance has led LEXXE to create the fresh dark pop sound she is known for today.  She first appealed to her creative senses by training as a ballet dancer through the Seiskaya Ballet Academy before earning her BFA from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance.  From there, LEXXE combined the sinewy nuances of dance with the vibrant melodies heard in her songs, receiving praise from the likes of Billboard, Audiofemme, and EARMILK.  She is on a roll, and after taking a small break over the holidays, LEXXE is ready to kick off 2023 with “X,” a dynamic tribute to her father.

A flurry of synth and percussion, “X” is a solemn song for the dance floor.  With slinky vocals, LEXXE mentions the ways that her dad lives on after his passing, leading her to believe that he is still around and present in her life.  Over the disco-inspired beats, she sings, “You’re every glass of whiskey / Every vintage car / And I feel you all around me / Know you can’t be far.”  In between lines, she throws down an “X” for “Xavier,” her dad’s name.  In the end, the track can be haunting or comforting depending on your mood.  You can check it out below.

About “X,” LEXXE explains,

“A few years ago I was performing and could absolutely swear I saw my father sitting front row.  I love to write about the supernatural and the things we don’t understand, so while I acknowledge that seeing him could’ve been something my mind made up, it doesn’t make it any less poignant.  The song is composed of different lines about me questioning life and death, talking about real life events (the show where I thought I saw him, his friends seeing me in random bars and crying because I look like him, the last time I saw him) and it’s really a question of do we ever really die?”

You can listen to “X” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
