LIVE PHOTOS + REVIEW: flor // Toronto, ON

Date:

On September 29th, flor performed at the Mod Club in Toronto for a heartfelt night of music presented by Ones To Watch.

The show opened with Lostboycrow, a duo who set the vibe right with their indie alt-pop:

After they left, the stage was set with a sign sporting the name joan emblazoned in neon lights, a band whose sound is equally bright, adventurous, and retro. The two piece effortlessly got the crowd jamming with their anthemic, addictive, unapologetic pop music. joan’s perfectly timed, perfectly executed pop music was nothing less than blissful live, and they contained all the passion of what would be expected in a headline act. I doubt that I am the only one hoping that they will be back soon:

Then came the four piece Oregon indie-rockers and the night’s headliners, flor. Their new album ley lines is all about connection, and their live shows are absolutely in line with this theme. The strong, authentic connection between the band and the crowd made for an environment of palpable positivity and excitement. There is something incredibly genuine about the energy they put forth on stage, as though they couldn’t possibly give any less than their all. It makes it hard to not give your all right back, and they had the crowd dancing to songs from ley lines, as well as a few old favourites from their debut come Out. you’re hiding.

Zach’s beautiful, distinct vocals soared over irresistible drum rhythms, some groovy bass, and guitars that ranged from more edgy electric on songs like money, and an acoustic that was pulled out for a few tracks including the joyful where do you go. To end off the beautiful night, flor got the crowd singing along to an old classic fan fave warm blood, with its well timed chorus and playfully intertwining melodies.

It is this kind of enthusiasm and positivity that has seen flor open for bands such as Paramore, Halsey and Hayley Kiyoko. As a headline act, flor absolutely proved their place with their vibrant spirit and strong crowd connection. As the tour suggests, they are truly Ones to Watch, so if you want in on the good times check out their tour dates on their website here.
