Recollection gets nostalgic with single, “Turntable,” the second track off their upcoming EP, Intrusive Thoughts.
While the EP’s title track explored the exhausting cycle of overthinking, “Turntable” shifts its focus toward a different kind of intrusive thought: the way a familiar song can send you hurling back into a memory, for better or worse. Blending the band’s hardcore foundation with indie rock melodies, Recollection delivers one of their most memorable and catchy songs yet.
“What’s that song? What’s that playing on the turntable? / I got déjà vu, it reminds me of you every time it plays,” Hynes sings, describing the strange feeling that occurs when music operates like both a time capsule and an emotional trigger.
For vocalist Josh Hynes, that inspiration comes from a deeply personal place.
“Turntable is about hearing a song that immediately pulls you out of where you’re at and transports you abruptly back to a specific time in your life,” Hynes explains. “I could be living my current day as a business owner and family man, but when the song ‘Brigade Loco’ by Vanilla Muffins plays […] I can still remember those friends and that summer in Manchester when I first heard that song and driving around the city not knowing what the days and nights were going to consist of. Scary, exciting, and unpredictable at the very least.”
Produced and mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit, with additional tracking by Eric Sauter at Black Heart Sound, the forthcoming four-song EP continues the band’s growth from their 2025 debut, Vivid Dreams (via Pop Wig Records). Rather than abandoning their hardcore roots, Recollection expands them, using focused songwriting and melodic restraint to amplify the emotional weight of each track. Now, the new single highlights Recollection’s greatest strength: making deeply personal experiences feel universal.
The Intrusive Thoughts EP arrives August 28 via DAZE. The band will celebrate the release with a string of free Northeast shows supporting Koyo before joining Death Before Dishonor in New Hampshire later this fall.
