Recent News: Maya Hawke‘s third studio album, Chaos Angel, comes out May 31.

While she began her life of stardom in the modeling scene and has risen to fame due to acting roles in the hit television show “Stranger Things,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood,” Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” American actress Maya Hawke has equally well-established herself as an indie-folk singer-songwriter. Having made her musical debut in 2019 with the release of her double single “To Love A Boy” / “Stay Open”, Hawke has since released two full length albums, Blush in 2020 and Moss in 2022. Now, the indie songstress is set to release her third studio album, Chaos Angel, on May 31 via Mom+Pop Records.

Hawke released three singles ahead of Chaos Angel, “Missing Out,” “Dark” and “Hang In There”, earlier this year. Continuing to harness the passionate, vulnerable and cathartic songwriting and lyricism that has fueled her artistry, Chaos Angel differs from the singer’s previous work in that it boldly digs deeper into the heart of her emotions. Representative of the maturity she has obtained in her music, Hawke’s new album is ultimately an exploration of her growth, personality and journey of wanderlust thus far.

With a musicality that is strongly poetic, angelic and charming, Hawke has said she strongly prioritizes writing music for herself. Regarding the upcoming record, Hawke said in an interview with The Guardian that “I’m more excited to put this record out than I’ve been about anything in my life. I think you have to narrow down your audience as a creative. If you’re trying to make art for everybody, you’re gonna make bad, neutral art.”

Within Chaos Angel, Hawke experiments with a variety of scenarios, personas and methods of storytelling. Combining heavy vintage singer-songwriter influences with 1970s folk rock, the new album is produced by Hawke’s boyfriend and longtime Phoebe Bridgers collaborator Christian Lee Hutson. As Hawke also gears up to film the final season of “Stranger Things,” she is ultimately entering a phase of her career in which she moves from youth to young adulthood. She conveys this in her artistry through soft acoustics, delicate vocals and vulnerable musicality, thus making her an artist to keep on your radar.
