MONTE is a three-piece punk band from Brooklyn offering a warped window inside their reality on new single “Canna-Vision”. Inspired by lead singer Caitlin Montclare’s harsh return to work after a cannabis-infused pandemic routine, the single sheds light on the jarring effects of a 9-5 hustle. Inspired by pop-punk bands of the 80’s and 90’s among the likes of NOFX, Pennywise and Lagwagon, “Canna-Vision” will fill your dopamine receptors to the brim with nostalgia.
The single draws together rapturous riffs, frantic bass lines, and frenetic vocals for a powerfully potent track that pounds the pavement. Lead singer Caitlin Montclare wails, “I need to feel something and nothing simultaneously.” The music video perfectly captures the dichotomy between comfort and work by juxtaposing the safe haven of a snug apartment with the grueling clutches of a corporate office. The band wears their best suits to the fictional offices of MONTE Corporate Headquarters before descending into familiar dependencies on substances before the day is through. “Canna-Vision” responds to the post-pandemic search for purpose with thought-provoking lyrics and striking sonics.
Revealing more on the inspiration behind the track, Caitlin Montclare asks, “Why come into work, when we are undervalued in the workplace? We might as well sit home, smoke weed, and be blissfully unaware of the crumbling world we live in. We should be neck deep in our art, not our work. Wouldn’t that be something?”
“Canna-Vision” is the first track from MONTE’s unreleased, upcoming album. The single was produced by platinum record producer Barb Morrison who has worked with an impressive array of artists including Franz Ferdinand and Blondie. The trio is made up of Caitlin Montclare (Vocals and Guitar), Meghan Rose (Harmonies and Bass) and Ismael Baiz (Drums). “Canna-Vision” is their latest release.
