Maddie Regent recalls childhood memories with new single “Schoolbags”

Date:

World-building in songwriting through the lens of romance, anxiety, fantasy, and heartbreak, Maddie Regent combines these themes in her music. This is particularly evident in her new single “Schoolbags.”

Maddie tends to draw from childhood memories and bring them back to the present with new perspectives from adulthood. Her vivid imagination allows her to romanticize the intensity of being alive.

Looking deeper into “Schoolbags,” Maddie reflects on the loss of childhood innocence. The song paints the memories and clear images of children hopping onto a school bus with their clear backpacks. With Regent’s haunting and cathartic voice, she mourns the reality in which these childhood moments no longer feel as lighthearted as they used to. Along with the nostalgic, ethereal, and atmospheric production, it puts listeners into a trance, making you reflect upon your own memories.

“I didn’t want to write an angry song, so I wrote it from a place of grief,” Regent shares.

I grieve my whimsical childhood knowing I might never be able to give that to my own kids.”

It’s a very touching, sentimental song that will hold you tight.
