Recent News: Will release their new album Big World on August 14 via Arts & Crafts Productions before touring North America this fall with support from Emma Ogier and Christian Lee Hutson.
Following up on their 2024 self-titled record, indie pop duo Hovvdy (that’s pronounced “howdy”) are gearing up to release a body of work that is more direct and straightforward, yet simultaneously delivered with a heightened self-awareness.
Composed of bandmates Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, Hovvdy made a name for themselves following their 2014 formation as a quintessential slowcore/bedroom pop act. Since releasing their debut full-length album Taster in 2016, Martin and Taylor have steadily released new material ever since, and now stand with five LP’s and five EP’s to their names. Their most recent album, 2024’s Hovvdy, was an impressive release. An extensive double album that critics said expanded upon the duo’s artistry more than ever before, Hovvdy was also incredibly vulnerable and personal in its songwriting.
Now, Hovvdy prepare to release Big World, their sixth full-length album, this Friday on Arts & Crafts Productions. While the album continues to build upon their signature sound, it also serves as the perfect counterpart to Hovvdy. While the duo’s self-titled release was massive in both its thematic content and the sheer amount of content, Big World dials back the intensity — but never the quality. Continuing to work with longtime collaborator and producer Ben Littlejohn, Martin and Taylor wrote the album between Nashville, Tennessee and Asheville, North Carolina last fall, prioritizing making an album that was more to the point and concise compared to Hovvdy.
Through album previews like “Try Try Try” and “Blast,” Hovvdy are still rolling out the chill, indie bangers that they’re known for, balancing deeply relatable songwriting with poignant execution. With every release, the duo adds more and more to their distinct musical world while never straying too far from their path and always staying true to their signature warm sonic glow.
Having just finished up a run of dates supporting Bleachers, Hovvdy will hit the road next week to play a select number of shows across Europe and the U.K. supporting Wilco. This fall, Hovvdy will embark on a North American headlining tour with support from Emma Ogier and Christian Lee Hutson. Kicking off October 9 in Lawrence, Kansas, the tour will make its way through select cities across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up on November 21 in Nashville.
