Lenox Hills release debut album, including title track “A Penny For Your Thoughts”

Date:

Named after their hometown, brother duo Lenox Hills have just released their debut album A Penny For Your Thoughts. Inspired by the garage rock songs of Kings Of Leon and Sam Fender, the album’s title track refuses to stand still, filling each second with electric guitars and rolling drums.

The guitars in “A Penny For Your Thoughts” take up most of the mix with amps adjusted to create differing textures across the song. In the intro, the rhythm guitar is filtered to give a slight sharpness, but soon the lower frequencies fill up the rest of the space. With its guitar-focused instrumentation, Lenox Hills’ vocals to take the back seat for most of the song, with the EQ and filters on them giving a nostalgic quality.

While the fuzziness of the guitars is the loudest, the bass line following the rhythm gives the song most of its grounding. This smoother texture is needed in “A Penny For Your Thoughts” as the drums share the guitars sharper tonality. A fuzz pedal is added during the guitar solo in the bridge and creates a brighter tone in the song’s last act, another needed contrast. With its dynamics changing but consistently energetic, the title track is rowdy in the best way possible.

“A Penny For Your Thoughts” off of Lenox Hills’ debut album is a piercing but harmonious song that gains momentum from the outset and refuses to slow down. It’s a song best heard live, the band have hinted at a tour announcement coming soon.
