American rock band gymclassheroes. has dropped an accompanying visual to their latest single, “Universal Language.” The music video and the hit track come after a long 15-year hiatus, bringing the band’s return to Warped Tour and announcing a U.S. co-headlining tour with Lupe Fiasco. The run will mark gymclassheroes.’ first headline tour since 2011.
Angelica Valente and Space Visuals directed the video, featuring acclaimed dancer Dytto and gymclassheroes. frontman Travie McCoy.
“Universal Language” follows the band’s signature sound of a fusion of hip-hop, alternative, pop, and rock, which earned them multi-platinum success in the early 2000s with tracks like “Cupid’s Chokehold,” “Stereo Hearts,” and “Ass Back Home.” This newest hit is inspired by McCoy’s journey of falling in love.
“I’ve been traveling this planet for more than half of my life, and I speak two languages, one I’m fluent in and one I was born with,” he said.
“I’ve been in a long term relationship with someone who didn’t speak much English, and sad to say, she’s the one that got away. But I think this song is letting people know that LOVE is and ALWAYS will be the UNIVERSAL language.”
