Family dynamics and connections are common themes on album covers. Most are about moving forward, about forming a new family and a future, about leaving behind the pain of the past. Soul-pop band Lukas Graham follows this idea through their lead singer and frontman, Lukas Forchhammer, and their newest album, Good Times.

The album was released on Friday, Aug. 14, and from the first track, it is a certified heart-wrenching masterpiece focused on traveling through grief and appreciating the time you have now, without dwelling solely on what the future holds. Good Times is a walk down memory lane, a reflection on the arc of grief and finding acceptance, and, ultimately, forward motion while remembering the “good times.”

“The whole album is full of a lot of life lessons,” Forchhammer said. “The sad part is everybody has to make their own mistakes to actually make them count, but if you listen closely there’s a lot of pieces in there about being more present and choosing the slow things.”

Tracks like “Second Chance” and “Before You Go” showcase the album’s dynamic range, with differences in rhythms and build-ups, while both telling their stories beautifully through the lyrics.

Throughout the 13-track album, ending with “Loved You Better,” there is not a single song that feels empty or like it’s taking up space. They are all a gift to listeners and fans of Graham.
