Eden Rain releases emotional new single, “I’ve Hidden Your Passport”

Date:

London singer-songwriter Eden Rain has returned with a new single titled, “I’ve Hidden Your Passport.” This deeply emotional track was written about Rain’s best friend moving from London to Sydney, and invites listeners right into the desperation of preparing for that loss. Moving honesty, stunning production and Rain’s vulnerable vocal performance have created a truly special song that will resonate with anybody who has dealt with loss in any capacity.

Produced by Iain Berryman (beabadoobee, Hozier), “I’ve Hidden Your Passport” opens with very raw vocals and droning keys. The composition and production are really something else. The piano and strings slowly fill out the mix through the top half of the song, blooming into a crashing, ethereal lament by the second chorus. Rain’s tender lyrics illustrate a deep, meaningful friendship, wherein committing a felony to keep said friend close actually makes perfect sense.

Rain’s lyrics cut right to the heart: “I guess I thought / If I leave you first, then it stings less / You take up more brain than I possess / Forgot that I’ll only lose you / You’ll lose all of us.” This is just one of the most cutting lines, but the song is full of similarly heartbreaking lyrics. You can almost feel the ache as Rain struggles to come to terms with losing someone she loves. She is a prolific writer with a gorgeous voice to match.

Rain’s EP, Can I Come Too? is set to release on September 25, and she will be performing her biggest headline show to date on October 14 in Oslo.

“I’ve Hidden Your Passport” is available to stream wherever you listen to music.
