Easy Star All-Stars and Macy Gray Collaborate on Reggae Re-imagination of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide”

Date:

On April 19th, the renowned reggae band Easy Star All-Stars, featuring the multi-award-winning Macy Gray released their latest hit, “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide.” The song is one of many projects on their newest album Ziggy Stardub, which is a reggae re-imagining of David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Each track on the album presents a fresh reggae spin on the original classics, offering laid-back energy, groovy rhythms, and powerful vocalists.

“Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide” kicks off with a lively drum beat, funky bassline, and dynamic synths, setting the tone for Macy Gray to take center stage. Her distinctive raspy vocals add a unique touch to the track, which then builds up with the addition of brass instruments and a choir of harmonies. The song culminates with Macy belting the lyrics, “Give me your hands,” followed by an assertive drum and brass instrument outro. The song is accompanied by a stop-motion video featuring two cats exploring their paper town on a whimsical evening adventure.

The collaboration of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide” between established acts Easy Star All-Stars and Macy Gray is a match made in musical heaven. When asked about their decision to team up with Macy Gray, Michael Goldwasser, the producer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist of Easy Star, explained; “The main key was finding an emotive and ground-breaking vocalist, and we did just that with Macy Gray, who is truly inimitable in every song that she sings, including this one.”
