Clara Lars embraces letting go on new single, “What I Wanted”

Date:

Rising electro-pop artist Clara Lars continues to carve out her own emotional universe with the release of her latest single, “What I Wanted,” out January 30. Co-produced by Lars herself alongside Kieron Menzies (Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa), “What I Wanted” balances intimacy with polish, allowing its emotional core to shine without sacrificing its radio-ready edge.

At just 16 years old, Lars has already developed a songwriting voice rooted in reflection and self-awareness. “What I Wanted” unfolds like a cinematic runaway narrative, built around the tension between nostalgia and release. The track finds the Brooklyn-born, Los Angeles-based artist exploring the quiet power of walking away from something that once felt essential.

Music has long served as an outlet for Lars, who began writing songs after relocating from Brooklyn to Los Angeles at age ten and since has drawn attention from acclaimed producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Grizzly Bear).

The single has already gained momentum, landing placements on Spotify’s New Music Friday and the cover of Fresh Finds Pop. Supported by an music video, Spotify showcase campaign, and digital advertising rollout, “What I Wanted” marks a confident step forward in an already impressive young career.
