Rex & The Rhythm was born and raised in Barbados where he first found a passion for music before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his dream at present. Striking a unique chord of alternative meets R&B with traces of his Carib-pop roots in the mix, Rex & The Rhythm is a sonic experience like no other. His latest single “Play My Guitar” is about giving someone your all and getting back nothing in return. It’s an ode to the one-sided relationships and tireless efforts of people-pleasers everywhere, ultimately concluding that we deserve better.
“Play My Guitar” stuns with earth-shaking harmonies, smooth riffs, and a powerhouse vocal from Rex himself. He sings, “I let her play my guitar while she’s playing with me.” The verses are snappy and ooze charisma over his quick cadence before unraveling into the cathartic chorus at the heart of the track. “Play My Guitar” leans into the frustration that comes with loving someone who doesn’t love you back in the ways you need them to.
Revealing more on the creation of “Play My Guitar”, Rex & The Rhythm admits, “I wanted to make something that sounded like if ‘Songs About Jane’ era Maroon V had a love child with current day Anderson Paak. I wanted the song to be a concert in a bottle. Funky, soulful, live with a big hook.”
Rex & The Rhythm grew up deeply involved in the music scene from his time spent with Eddy Grant to his involvement in Carib-pop band Cover Drive. During his time in Cover Drive, Rex got to open for names among the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, and Lauryn Hill. More recently in 2022, Rex opened for Ashanti in Barbados at The Hennessy Artistry Festival. “Play My Guitar” is his infectious new release.
