Feel like staring at the wall while thinking about the one that got away and the exponential rate at which we are hurtling through “The Golden Years”?  Joshua Bassett’s new single may be for you. The multi-talented pop sensation known for his deeply personal lyrics and captivating sound  released his latest single, “The Golden Years”, on May 17th via Warner Records.

“The Golden Years” follows Bassett’s last single titled “Doppelgänger”,  released in February 2022, which captivated fans with its raw emotion and heartfelt lyrics. This new single serves as the lead track for his upcoming debut album, The Golden Years, which is set to arrive on July 26th.

In the opening verse, Bassett paints a vivid picture of nostalgia and warmth: “Time stopped movin’ the minute I saw ya / You took my Taylor guitar in the city of stars / And you made it your own”. The track exudes a sense of carefree joy and connection, blending Bassett’s signature style with a summery, melodic charm.

The chorus captures the essence of these golden moments, inviting listeners to appreciate what they have while they have it:

“If I would’ve known those were the golden years / I would’ve held you longer that night when you kissed me goodbye through your tears”.

Bassett’s smooth vocals and the song’s catchy melody make it a perfect soundtrack for warm nights on balconies, with bad white wine and good company.

The second verse introduces a reflective tone, acknowledging the passage of time and the fleeting nature of these moments. “Four years gone by in the blink of an eye / We were young till we weren’t it was fun till it hurt / Now I’m terrified that I’ll never find love like yours”. Bassett’s introspective lyrics resonate deeply, reminding us to be present and grateful for life as it happens to us. Tell your friends you love them, dance like you mean it, and run barefoot in the grass.

Accompanying the track is a warm lyric video with a vintage grain, where viewers can focus on the heartfelt words while enjoying the visual aesthetic that complements the song’s nostalgic and summery vibe.

Reflecting on the creation of “The Golden Years”, Bassett shared:

“This song is incredibly special to me. It’s about savoring the simple, beautiful moments in life and holding onto them. I wanted to create something that feels light and joyous, yet deeply meaningful. It’s a reflection on the past and a reminder to cherish the present.”

Joshua Bassett may sing, write, act, and play multiple instruments, but he humbly identifies himself as “just a kid from San Diego who loves music”. Growing up in Oceanside, CA, he played drums in church, taught himself ukulele, guitar, and piano, and wrote his first song at 15. His breakout role in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019 led to a deal with Warner Records and the release of his solo debut “Common Sense” in 2020. Bassett’s career has continued to soar with hits like “Feel Something” and EPs such as Sad Songs In A Hotel Room and Different.
